Speaking to you from the past
Welcome to another issue of Load Save! Just a reminder when you're reading this: I'm in the middle of the ocean on a big ship with no internet access, so if any ground-breaking news has happened, ala the PS5 reveal, I have no idea about it yet.
Instead of taking a week off, I going to recommend a few of my favorite gaming newsletters/publications for you to peruse! A few of these newsletters got into the game around the same time as I did, so go check them out and show them some love. Each one has its own unique flavor, so enjoy this special week of Load Save.
I can't wait to get back and catch up on all the news I missed. As always, enjoy the read!
Blogs
Rock Paper Shotgun - PC Game Reviews, Previews, Subjectivity
Disclaimer: These links are all blogs, but most of them have newsletters with daily/weekly recaps of what they wrote. So if you still need a newsletter fix, there's an option for that too!
I did a fun quasi-survey a few weeks on my Twitter where I asked people's favorite gaming sites. I included my current favorite: Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The writing in these articles are unmatched. There's a perfect balance of comedy, reporting, and insight without overstepping its boundaries. If you take a look through Load Save's archives, you'll see that most of the "Just For Laughs" articles are from RPS. But this doesn't mean it's just a comedy blog, it's a great resource for PC Gaming news. If you haven't, go read their "Have you played...?" article series and pick one that stands out. I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it.
Gamesindustry.Biz - news about the global video games industry.
For all of your serious gaming news, especially anything related to the industry, GamesIndustry.Biz is the best place to go. Their writing is informative and professional, so you won't have to worry about someone's agenda being pushed down your throat. Even the opinion articles are well-thought out but still respectful. It's a great read to understand what's going on behind-the-curtain.
Before You Go
Interested in starting a gaming newsletter?
There you have it! That's some of my favorite gaming newsletters and publications. For the newsletters, we're really all in this together (insert High School Musical). I've talked with each of the creators of the newsletters listed and they've all been incredibly polite and helpful. They've taught me a lot about creating Load Save and I'll value their friendship for a long time. If you've ever wanted to start a gaming newsletter, take a leap of faith and try it out! If you have any questions about anything, shoot me an email or hit me up on Twitter or Facebook. I would love to help in any way I can.
I say it all the time, but this is so fun to do. Building the newsletter is often the highlight of my weeks and I'm so glad I get to share it with the world. Next week we'll be back to the regular Load Save layout.
Until then!
